Growth Mindset Parenting: Positive "Assessment Tools" for Your Child (Part 4)

Assessment is not something we frequently discuss in the world of parenting, but as a parent, you are providing your child with the self-talk they will use when they do receive feedback. This is when it is helpful to say, “Getting better takes time”, “I will do better when I know better”. When you see your young child working at something in their world of play, say statements that start with “I really like how you…” or “I noticed that…” to provide the feedback that the child is developing a method that will give them success.

A great book to read to your child is a rhyming book called Thanks for the Feedback, I think! by Julia Cook that guides a child on how to receive positive and negative feedback and how to respond appropriately to that feedback.
